11/1/2011    Monthly Meeting

Our next monthly meeting will be held on November 1st at the Goshen Public Library at 6:30PM. We would be glad to have you join us.

Chapter History

In the fall of 2006, an avid outdoorsman, Derrick Hendricks, hosted an exploratory meeting of about a dozen like minded individuals interested in preserving and conserving wildlife habitat. The meeting was held at the River Inn, in Bristol, Indiana. Brian Grossman, the Regional Wildlife Biologist for Pheasants Forever facilitated the discussion. Enough interest and enthusiasm was shown among the group to proceed forward with attempts to establish a new Chapter of Pheasants Forever in Elkhart County.

Media outlets were contacted and spread the word of an organizational meeting of Pheasants Forever. That meeting was held at the Purdue Cooperative Extension Service office, Elkhart County 4-H Fairgrounds, 17746-B County Road 34, Goshen, Indiana. The meeting was hosted by Elkhart County Soil and Water Conservation District, Manager, Nancy Brown. This time, Brian Grossman, Regional Wildlife Biologist for Pheasant Forever, gave an in-depth presentation, to an audience of around 50 individuals, about Pheasants Forever. He explained how they might go about forming a Chapter and joining this prestigious organization. After much lively discussion it was agreed that a Chapter was needed and could be sustained in Elkhart County.

Elkhart Chapter #826 of Pheasants Forever was officially formed, November 16th, 2006. Angelo H. Miller was chosen as its first President.

Under the leadership of Mr. Miller and a core group of dedicated PF members the first Elkhart County Pheasants Forever Banquet was held March 24th, 2007, at Eby Pines Conference Center, Bristol, Indiana. There was an overflowing capacity crowd. The banquet was a huge success, made possible by generous financial support of the many in attendance.

Pheasants Forever Chapter #826 grassroots had been established. That spring Elkhart County Pheasants Forever completed just a little less than 100 acres of habitat projects.

Since then regular monthly meetings of Elkhart County Chapter #826, Board of Directors, and other interested persons have been conducted. These meetings generally are held at the Goshen Public Library the first Tuesday of the month at 7:30 p.m. Monthly meetings serve as organizational business meetings for the chapter and our many habitat projects, youth/education events, and other Pheasants Forever activities around the county.
